The Verb "To Be" – Present Simple (Affirmative) 📚💡



1. The verb ‘to be’ is one of the most important verbs in English. We use it to describe people, things, and situations.

*** In the present simple tense, the verb "to be" has three forms:

* am

* is

* are

*** We use these forms with different subjects.

2. Full Forms of the Verb "To Be":

*I am

*You are

*He is

*She is

*It is

*We are

*They are

3. Short Forms of the Verb "To Be":

*I’m

*You’re

*He’s

*She’s

*It’s

*We’re

*They’re


4. Usage of Am, Are, and Is:

*We use "am" with I.

*We use "are" with you, we, and they.

*We use "is" with he, she, and it.

5. Examples:

***With Full Forms:

*I am a student.

*You are my friend.

*He is a doctor.

*She is happy.

*It is a sunny day.

*We are ready for class.

*They are my neighbours.

***With Short Forms:

*I’m a student.

*You’re my friend.

*He’s a doctor.

*She’s happy.

*It’s a sunny day.

*They’re my neighbours.


6. Differences Between Full and Short Forms:

***Full forms are used in formal situations and in writing.

***Short forms are used in informal and daily conversations.
